Colleg Cymoedd 2011

Based upon the wedding dress and veil worn by the character 'Ellie Andrews' in the 1933 film 'It Happened One Night'. The original costumes were designed by Robert Kalloch, and the film was directed by Frank Capra.

 

I cut and made this bias cut crepe-backed satin dress taking inspiration from existing wedding and evening dresses of the 1930s. The silk tulle veil is joined onto a silk covered buckram headband similar to those worn in the 1920s. I also hand made the silk flowers, and covered the satin buttons on the back of the dress.
